मुम्बई में आज भारत और श्रीलंका के बीच क्रिकेट विश्व कप का फाइनल मैच खेला जाएगा। इसके साथ ही ४३ दिनों से चल रहे सबसे बड़े क्रिकेट आयोजन का आज समापन हो जाएगा। खिताब की दहलीज पर खड़ा भारत जहां विश्व कप का अपना २८ साल पुराना इतिहास दोहराने की कोशिश करेगा, वहीं १९९६ की चैम्पियन श्रीलंका की टीम भी पूरी तैयारी के साथ मैदान में उतरेगी।
प्रधानमंत्री डा० मनमोहन सिंह ने आज श्रीलंका के साथ विश्वकप फाइनल के लिए भारतीय टीम को अपनी शुभकामनायें दी हैं। उन्होंने उम्मीद जाहिर की है कि क्रिकेट विश्वकप में टीम इंडिया जीतेगी। मैच को देखने के लिए हजारों क्रिकेट प्रेमियों के साथ राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभादेवी सिंह पाटील और श्रीलंका के राष्ट्रपति महिन्द्रा राजपक्षे मौजूद रहेंगे। मैच में मास्टर ब्लास्टर सचिन तेन्दुलकर को सौवां शतक बनाने और क्रिकेट विश्वकप जीतने के सपना पूरा करने का मौका मिलेगा सचिन के शानदार क्रिकेट रिकॉर्ड में बस यही एक कमी रह गई है। फाइनल से पहले भारत और श्रीलंका के टीमों के सामने कुछ खिलाड़ियों के चोटों को भी लेकर चिंता बनी हुई है। मोहाली में पाकिस्तान के साथ बेहतरीन बॉलिंग करने वाले आशिष नेहरा उंगली के चोट के कारण फाइनल में नहीं खेल पांएगे। वहीं श्रीलंका भी मुथैया मुरलीधरण और ऑल राउंडर एंजलो मेथ्युस की चोटों को लेकर चिंतित है। उनके स्थान पर सूरज रणदीप को बुलाया गया है।

अखिल ऐसा लग रहा है कि पूरी दक्षिण मुम्बई को सुरक्षा कर्मियों ने घेर करके रख दिया है और फुलप्रूफ सिक्योरिटी के लिए मुम्बई पुलिस की सहायता के लिए काफी संख्या में एन एस जी कमांडो अर्धसैनिक बल भी तैनात किये गए हैं। हवाई और जल स्थानों में सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए मुम्बई के करीब सभी ऐयरबेस पर भारतीय नौसेना और तट रक्षक को अलर्ट कर दिया गया है। ताज होटल में जहां खिलाड़ी और वीआईपी ठहरे हुए हैं वहां भी सुरक्षा के कड़े इंतजाम किये गए हैं।
आकाशवाणी से मैच का आंखो देखा हाल मीडियम वेव और एफ एम गोल्ड चैनल पर दोपहर दो बजे से प्रसारित किया जायेगा।

हमने काफी उदारीकरण किया है लेकिन गृह सचिव स्तर की बातचीत में फिर बातचीत करने का सुझाव आया है कि एक संयुक्त कार्य समूह गठित किया जाए ताकि आगे उदारीकरण पर विचार हो सके। हमने इस पर सकारात्मक रूख अपनाया और इस बात पर भी सकारात्मक विचार बना कि भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच वीजा नियमों को उदार बनाया जाए।

इस बीच, लीबिया की सेना पश्चिमोत्तर के तेल शहर ब्रेगा सहित विद्रोहियों के कब्जे वाले कई शहरों में आगे बढ़ रही है। देश के पूर्वी इलाकों में विद्रोही पिछले दो दिनों से शहरों पर कब्जे की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। मानवाधिकार समूहों का कहना है कि छह हफ्ते से भी पहले से लीबिया में चल रहे संघर्ष में चार सौ से भी ज्यादा लोग लापता हैं।
जापान के प्रधानमंत्री नाओतो कान परमाणु संकट से घिरे फुकुशिमा दाइची परमाणु संयंत्र का आज दौरा करेंगे। इस दौरान वे फुकुशिमा दाइची के छह रिएक्टरों को ठंडा करने और विकिरण नियंत्रित करने के प्रयास में लगे सैनिकों, अग्निशमन दस्तों और इंजीनियरों के लिए शिविर में तब्दील खेल परिसर भी जाएंगे। श्री कान ने भूकंप और त्सुनामी के बाद ध्वस्त फुकुशिमा त्रासदी से उबरने के लिए युद्ध स्तर पर कार्य करने की बात कही है।

राष्ट्रीय सहारा और दैनिक जागरण ने उच्चतम न्यायालय के इस अहम फैसले का जिक्र किया है कि नाजायज संतानें केवल माता-पिता द्वारा अर्जित संपत्ति में हिस्सेदारी पाने बल्कि पैतृक संपत्ति की हकदार भी हैं।

The ICC last night lifted the ban on news television channels covering the world cup finals following an intervention by Information and Broadcasting Ministry. Cricket’s global governing body said in a statement that it will seek legal action against them if they violate media guidelines. It said, the ICC will also seek to recover damages through the courts in India rather than bar the channels from the final match.
All India Radio will broadcast a live commentary on the match. It can be heard on the Medium Wave and the FM Gold Channel from 2 P.M. onwards.
The Tamil Nadu government had, earlier, favoured a CBI probe into Batcha’s death. The Supreme Court asked Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising to take instructions from the Centre and inform the court by Monday about the issuance of a notification for transferring the case to the CBI.

Hundreds of protestors had gathered outside UN office in northern city when the demonstration turned violent. Some of the protestors snatched guns of security guards, mostly Nepalese, killed them and entered the complex. A part of the building was set on fire and two other foreigners were killed. Another succumbed to his injuries later. This was one of the worst attacks on UN office and the security council along with Afghan President has condemned it. UN chief in Kabul Steffan De Mastura has rushed to Mazar-e-sharif to personally handle the situation. Security is on high alert in capital Kabul and other major cities as such protests against burning of Koran may be held again.
Meanwhile, government forces continued to make inroads into rebel-held cities, including the north-west oil town of Brega. Rebel forces have struggled for two days to regain and keep control of towns and facilities in Libya‘s east. The Libyan Army has driven them out of a string of key oil terminals that the rebels had twice seized in recent weeks.

Most papers report that the CBI has agreed to investigate the death of Saadiq Baatcha, a close aide of former telecom minister A Raja. In a related development, the Hindustan Times, the Hindu and the Tribune write that the CBI has told a special CBI court that Batcha’s death may be linked to a cash payment made to his company by Shahid Balwa’s firm DB Realty.
The Shunglu Committee’s sixth and final report on the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the Commonwealth Games is highlighted by all the papers. The Mail Today, citing references to Organising Committee (OC) chief Suresh Kalmadi, writes “He fudged papers to get OC chief post”. After Indo Pak cricket diplomacy comes of what most papers call tit-for-tat diplomacy. In what it labels “Indo Pak tit-for-tat” the Statesman writes that after a Pakistan High Commission driver was detained by Indian security agencies at Chandigarh airport, an official of the Indian High Commission in Pakistan went missing and was later released. Reporting this story on its front page, the Hindustan Times writes “After Mohali peace vow, tit-for-tat arrests”.
In a special front page story, the Business Standard writes that the Government has finalised a three step strategy to transfer fertiliser subsidy directly to farmers. The paper says that initially the retailers will be paid based on the quantity of fertilisers they receive from the companies and finally the farmers will be paid directly.
